PrintCity – Manchester Metropolitan University

I’m from the Silicon Valley of India, Bengaluru (Bangalore)! My first words were ’car’ and my love too. I studied Mechanical Engineering at Presidency University, achieving a Distinction with honours. I stumbled across 3D printing in my second year, became a 3D printing guru within a semester, bought the cheapest 3D printer kit and built my own. This passion led me to PrintCity and MMU where I’m pursuing my MSc. in Digital Design and Manufacturing.

My enthusiasm for 3d printing led me to work with Kennametal India Pvt. Ltd. I created a team and we worked with them on using additive manufacturing to make machine tools. I taught myself design techniques like generative design and shape optimization and software tools for them. I built an algorithm around shape optimization of cross-section while working with Kennametal and published a paper on it.

I’m a petrolhead, and my collection of diecast cars topped at 103. In uni, I became vice president of our SAE colligate club, together with vice-captain of our SAE REEV (Range extended electric vehicle). I did crash analysis for the team.

In the pandemic, I 3D printed ‘Earsavers’ used to hook masks to so that your ears wouldn’t hurt and made a business case out of it. This was where I learnt most of my manufacturing techniques such as nesting. I want to become an expert in this field of technology. I see huge opportunities in additive manufacturing and Design for additive and I want to explore them.
