Abraham Moss School Visit

Year 10 pupils from Abraham Moss visited PrintCity for their 3D print and CAD Taster Day in which students transition from zero knowledge to being able to create their own finished, rendered products in 5 hours. Students began the day by learning basic tools in Autodesk Fusion 360, aided by MMU student ambassadors. The pupils eventually made a bespoke water bottle, exploring different tools and applying decals and modifiers such as fillets.

Ambassadors from different courses at Manchester Met were able to use their existing skills and knowledge of CAD and 3D printing to offer an enriching visit day exploring all the different applications for 3D design in both academic and workplace environments.

Thoughts and comments from our ambassadors….

Arran – “I was very impressed with those on my row. They showed amazing development, even someone who didn’t want to take part in the competition ended up making a very good Viking horn (still didn’t win though)”

Siva – “I was surprised by how the kids picked up a completely new software and could use that at the end of 5 hours to create amazing designs. I could not see any other topic they would have so much zeal working with”.

Simba – “Always happy to be part of the end of day Design Slam! Some of the more ambitious students will always challenge me by asking for help with the most random designs, putting my own modelling skills to the test. “

Chloe – “It was great to see how previous knowledge of CAD and 3D printing can be applied to teach others, especially when offering the benefits and limitations of 3D printing. The year 10 students at Abraham Moss were extremely enthusiastic to learn, asking questions at every opportunity. Students most benefitted when it came to the Design Slam towards the end of the day, in which competitive spirits were high!”
