Tom Brine

Currently studying MSc Industrial Digitalisation at MMU I am a mature student, having first graduated in 2011 with a BSc (Hons) in Chemistry from The University of Manchester.

I spent the last 6 years of my career in the Medical Device Industry, where I developed professionally across several roles, ranging from a Laboratory Technician through to Laboratory Supervisor and most recently, Manufacturing Operations Manager.

During this time, I was both heavily involved in the execution of site wide projects and the direct management of several continuous improvement projects, including the re-design and optimisation of the organisation’s inventory management system.  Before this, I spent several years in the Scientific Recruitment industry, which equipped me with the ability to communicate across all levels of an organisation and negotiate business terms.

Across my career to date I have been a driving force behind sustainability-oriented changes to my respective organisation’s operations, being a self-proclaimed Environmentalist and an advocate for sustainability-focused change.

As such, looking to the future I recognised the significance of interconnectivity, automation, machine learning, real-time data and emerging technologies such as additive manufacturing, on industry and the sustainability of our planet.
