Georgina Barker

Learning how to use Computer Aided Design (CAD) software has broadened my abilities and outcomes, allowing new possibilities in my practice as a designer. My background is in textiles, having studied BA Textiles in Practice at Manchester School of Art. For me, it was always about learning new skills and enabling innovation to flow in my work – all of which this course provides.

The Autodesk Women in Leadership Scholarship has enabled me to prosper in a new area of interest and I hope to encourage young women to do the same. I was able given the opportunity to teach Fusion 360 to those studying on my undergraduate course and to schools around the UK. I was also a CREATE Education ambassador and hope to inspire other young people to engage with future technology.

My aim is to become a versatile design, obtaining new skills and enhancing my professionalism to open new doors in the textile industry. I hope to shape the way new technologies are used in creative practices.

I have learned how to use Computer Aided Design (CAD) and 3D printing across a broad range of applications and materials, how to articulate my ideas to others in a professional manner as well as developing my project management skills. I have developed a diverse skillset and this will be on show in my portfolio, combining traditional and contemporary practice.
