PrintCity – Manchester Metropolitan University

Callum Baxter

I have always had an interest in product design. This is what motivated me to become a design and technology technician whilst studying for a degree in illustration, and to continue this occupation before undertaking my MSc in Digital Design and Manufacturing at Print City. I am excited to study on a course where I can apply my five years of experience as a technician and my degree level education in illustration to develop my enthusiasm in product design and engineering.

I have five years of experience as a technician supporting the teaching of GCSE and A-Level product design. I have delivered tutorials to students and staff on use of the Adobe Creative Cloud, Fusion 360 and Onshape, and manufacturing methods such as 3D printing, CNC Routing and Laser Cutting. I’m also proficient with a wide range of workshop equipment and hand tools.

Through undertaking private commissions for PhD Art Students at Lancaster University and manufacturing public displays for Sedbergh School I have had the opportunity to apply my design and manufacturing skills for professional clients. As a result, I have a good understanding of taking clients through the design process, from initial concept through to manufactured product.

I have a portfolio website that I actively update with artwork, model making projects and private commissions. Additionally, I enjoy climbing, running, board games and science fiction books. I also have a beautiful border collie called Oska living at home back in Lancaster!
