Jamie Owen Smith
Hello There!.. My name is Jamie Owen Smith, and I am currently studying for my MSC in Digital Design & Manufacturing. Over the past 7 years, I have been studying graphic design, got my 2:1 Bachelor’s degree in Graphic design and then became a 3D Creative Designer straight out of University.
After studying for my BA (HONS), I was scouted at our University Degree show by a stationery merchandise company called Blue Sky Designs. 4 months into the business as a Junior Designer, I was promoted to the head 3D creative designer where I designed products, discussed materials and prototyping with factories based in China as well as making sure products were ready for shipment to our clients. 2 years later I decided to move on to do my MSc to expand my knowledge of the 3d design industry and find my footing in the film industry.
An industry that I really want to find my career in is the film and entertainment industry. All my life, I’ve loved films. I’ve gone from making short films when I was a kid to writing books and screenplays to this day. But I also fell in love with Graphic Design and additive manufacturing, so I had to try to think of how I could blend the two. During my third year of my BA (HONS), I discovered a huge interest in prop design and product design. Because of this, I immediately realised I wanted to work as a prop designer for film, TV and theatre. I’m super excited to go further in both my studies and career and hope to think that one day I will be working in the film industry.
