With everyone from major manufacturers to healthcare organisations investing heavily in 3D print technology, this qualification is your chance to be at the forefront of a huge growth area. It offers hands-on training in the fascinating field of digital manufacturing and aims to educate and develop industry-ready professionals who are well-positioned to fill the skills gap in this rapidly evolving industry.

Alongside a focus on 3D printing, units will develop skills in Computer-Aided Design (CAD), digital manufacturing, industrial sustainability, project management, 3D scanning, and even mixed reality.

The course is for anyone with an inquisitive mind and a desire to learn the skills required to succeed in a dynamic industry. Our students come from a range of backgrounds, including business management, engineering and textiles.

State-of-the-art learning environment

Carry out your studies and create your work in the PrintCity facility, which is equipped with the very latest 3D printers from Farsoon, Bambu, Formlabs, Ultimaker, Markforged, Photocentric, HP and more. We have over 100 printers on our site in Turing House near the Brooks building on the Manchester Met campus.

As well as 3D printers, we are well equipped with digital scanning, from the handheld Artec Leo, ExScan SPV2 turntable scanners and recently the Einscan HX blue light laser scanner. We have a Datron NEO CNC machine also, a laser cutter (GlowForge) and a Waser water-jetting machine. Our AMT vapor smoothing systems can further enhance 3D prints.

Links to industry

We have a strong working relationship with creative software provider Autodesk UK and the programme provides a route for students to become an Autodesk Certified User through the universities RISE programme. This is a recognised qualification in addition to the programme award which demonstrates proficiency in Computer Aided Design (CAD) software and is sought after by employers.

The programme structure and student lifecycle are designed to build a variety of skills and a portfolio of work that will help to launch our graduates into exciting, industry 4.0-related positions in design and manufacturing.
