Abigail Hall
I am currently a Postgraduate MSc Digital Design and Manufacturing student at MMU, and my course is providing the opportunity for me to learn, grow and develop advanced digital design and manufacturing skills with an insight into industry and training opportunities. Having achieved a 1st Class Honours Degree in Product Design Engineering and a PGCE with QTS and Merit in Secondary Design and Technology at this University, I currently undertake freelance work. Following Carbon Literacy training, I have endeavoured to see design for sustainability as a priority in the creation of innovative, exciting products.
My Arkwright Engineering Scholarship initially provided insight and focus and the “Innovate, Educate, Collaborate,” mantra of PrintCity is akin to my own personal philosophy and aligned with my training to date which has allowed me to develop my engineering and communication skills. I am keen to merge and extend my knowledge of both Education and Design and Manufacturing as I envisage a demand for teaching and training in this field which I would like to explore in a variety of settings.
During my undergraduate studies I developed knowledge and skills in SolidWorks, Autodesk Fusion and Adobe Workshop and I am excited to utilise the cutting-edge facilities available in the new Engineering building and PrintCity to hone my digital skills. I am particularly interested in the role of generative design and immersive realities which feature on the course and am especially excited to develop research methods to deliver projects which might link to learning and future sustainable development.
