Milanka Dewayalage

I’m a postgraduate student at Manchester Metropolitan University, pursuing an MSc in Digital Design and Manufacturing. A strong foundation in 3D and non-3D software and hands-on experience with various types of CNC and FDM machines has shaped my journey here. I’ve tackled a variety of academic projects and otherwise, gaining valuable skills and a real passion for the world of 3D printing. I’m especially fascinated by its potential in design and the simplicity it brings to prototyping. I truly believe 3D printing has only just begun to reveal its value in the industry. I’m excited to see how it will continue to evolve as a key player in innovation.

Before this, I earned a BEng (Hons) in Chemical Engineering, which equipped me with a solid set of engineering skills. Now, through my MSc course (Digital Design and Manufacturing), I’m diving into digital design, prototyping, digital scanning, sustainability, and project management, all of which are helping me grow as a designer and expand my professional potential.

My goal is to work in the film or sports industries, where I can bring ideas to life, transforming sketches into tangible 3D objects. I’m confident that my skillset and experiences will empower me to thrive and make a meaningful impact in these creative fields.
