Sam R. Frost
My academic journey is quite different than most of my peers; I studied (BSc) Biomedical Science as an undergraduate and graduated as the top student of my cohort of over 300. Instead of continuing down that path, I decided to take a new challenge on a perennial interest of mine – Additive Manufacturing.
I’ve been experimenting personally with desktop 3D printers since 2018. After countless breakdowns and rebuilds, I’ve gained a deep, hands-on understanding of what makes these machines tick. This experience has shaped my approach to designing for additive manufacturing—my ‘default’ design thinking is already in sync with the capabilities of modern 3D printers.
With my scientific, detail-oriented background and enthusiasm for new technologies and processes, I am well equipped to take on a variety of challenges. From human to industrial applications, I am at my best when working on solutions for novel problems. So, whilst I remain interested in applying my scientific and medical knowledge in areas such as prosthetics and dentistry; I am just as committed to exploring other areas such as manufacturing optimisations, material science, even brain-computer interfacing. I think the possibilities additive allows for are truly great and varied.
To keep myself grounded, I have run my small online business selling select 3D-Printed models and props since 2021. You can find some of my personal and end user-oriented designs on my Printables page, freely available to download. For a more professional representation of my work and business, I maintain my portfolio on my website.
In my spare time, I particularly enjoy motorsport and space-flight simulation games.
