Qhudwa Sarmad

Born in India but raised in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia, my upbringing was shaped by two distinct influences: automobiles and industry. My fascination with the diverse vehicles on the road quickly transformed me into an enthusiast, captivated by their intricate mechanics and design. Concurrently, Yanbu’s thriving industrial landscape ignited my curiosity about large- scale manufacturing and heavy industries. This convergence of interests propelled me to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering at JSS Science & Technology University in Mysore, India, where I could delve deeper into machinery, design, and manufacturing processes.

During my undergraduate studies, I immersed myself in automotive design, particularly through a project where our team constructed an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) from scratch for a national competition. This project provided me with invaluable hands-on experience in manufacturing, finite element analysis (FEA), and stress testing. Furthermore, I led my team to the semifinal round of an innovative Smart City Cars challenge organized by Mercedes- Benz Research & Development India, which further broadened my understanding of automotive design in an urban context.

Driven by my desire to contribute to a sustainable future, I opted to pursue an MSc in Digital Design & Manufacturing at Manchester Metropolitan University. This program seamlessly integrates creativity and innovation, aligning with my aspiration to contribute to sustainable technology and design.

Manchester Metropolitan University’s unique approach to education, characterized by its emphasis on practical applications and global perspectives, has significantly enriched my experience. I am eager to establish connections, both within the university and with industry leaders, and I anticipate making a meaningful contribution to the field of sustainable technology, contributing to a better future for the industry and the planet.
