I am from a little town at the edge of the High Peak called Glossop, but I embrace the Mancunian way of life.
I have always enjoyed tinkering and finding out how things work. From a young age I gained tool skills working on motorcycles with my father, as a result I have grown into an avid biker myself. My interest in design can ultimately be attributed to working on bikes, as I’d frequently question the design choices and why they were made and could if it be done better?
I studied BSc (Hons) Product Design and Technology at Manchester Metropolitan University and achieved a First Class with Honours; it was during my undergraduate studies I found myself at print city getting to know the staff. Therefore, studying MSc Digital Design and Manufacturing at print city naturally became the next step.
I took a year out during my undergraduate to do a placement year at Fastrak Retail, who I had met during my first year, Fastrak specialised in point of sale displays and are responsible for the blue national lottery displays we all know and love. While at Fastrak I worked on various project including outdoor LED signs for Canada which had to survive -40oC temperatures!
Industry 4.0 is of great interest to me and how it is revolutionising the industry as we know it. I have taken a specific interest in generative design and how it can be applied to motorsports and the automotive industry. For my dissertation at undergraduate level, I centred my project on redesigning a motorcycle triple clamp using generative design.
