My life has always been driven by a desire to grow and learn more. I’ve had a passion for mathematics and a natural curiosity about how things work, which led me to explore engineering. This path brought me to a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2018.

For four years, I immersed myself in the world of vehicle engineering in Nigeria, mainly focusing on repairing and improving vehicle designs. Engineering, to me, is not just a profession; it’s a canvas for my global impact, a brush with which I paint my contributions to the world.

Choosing a specific field in engineering was quite challenging. At various points, I flirted with the idea of specializing in Aeronautic Engineering, Mechatronics at some point, then Robotics, and finally Biomedical Engineering. This journey led me to an exciting project in 2022, where I led a team to design and 3D print a prosthetic palm, a beacon of hope for amputees, particularly those affected by insurgency. This project wasn’t just about engineering; it was about touching lives, one palm at a time.

Discovering the MSc in Digital Design and Manufacturing at Manchester Metropolitan University (Manchester Met) was like finding the missing piece of my engineering puzzle. This ended my search for the perfect advanced course as it was a perfect blend of all my interests. This course, a convergence point for Aeronautics, Mechatronics, Biomedical Engineering, and more, felt like a home reuniting all these engineering disciplines – and they all need their parts designed and printed. The Allan and Nesta Ferguson Charitable Trust Scholarship was a timely blessing, providing me with a fully funded opportunity to pursue this dream. Imagine me, a modern-day alchemist, turning ideas into reality!

At Manchester Met, I encountered a different style of ‘learning by doing’, a stark, yet exhilarating departure from my previous educational experiences. This approach, though challenging, is exciting and keeps me on my toes, eagerly anticipating how I can apply this knowledge and skills from the classroom in practical settings. As the pioneer Nigerian scholar in this course, I’m eager to use this opportunity to make a difference in the industry and beyond, harnessing the power of engineering to impact nations.
