Matteo Crompton

This year I am doing the MSc Digital Design and Manufacturing course based at PrintCity. Product design has long been a passion of mine, taking a keen interest in it throughout high school and then into college to focus on engineering and product design specifically.  After completing my studies there, I moved on to working in industry at a bike packing/ luggage company in Leeds. As a keen lifelong cyclist, this was a great environment to be in.  Whilst there I worked in their cutting room operating CNC fabric cutters and laser cutters. I also ran their Formlabs SLA printer, designing jigs and fixtures for use around their workshop. After a year of working, I moved to Manchester to start studying.

My next three years were spent earning myself a first-class honours degree in Product Design Engineering. During that time, I developed my skills as a designer and engineer leaving the course with a much more well-rounded skillset. However, I felt like there was still much more that the uni could offer me and the vast amount of knowledge and tools PrintCity possesses were a big deciding factor for me when I enrolled on the master’s course. I am looking forward to what this year will bring and hope to move into employment soon after graduating.
